Iconic Japanese Green Tea KitKat is coming to the UK

Nestlé is bringing the flavour of Japan to the UK this summer with the launch of KitKat Green Tea Matcha.

KitKat Green Tea Matcha is inspired by one of the most popular of the 350+ KitKat varieties that have been available in Japan over the years and follows requests from chocolate lovers to make innovative KitKat flavours available to consumers outside Japan.

Matcha is a traditional drink made from powdered green tea that has been enjoyed for centuries in Japan, often as part of an elaborate tea ceremony. In KitKat Green Tea Matcha, it is combined with smooth white chocolate to give a sweet and fragrant flavour.

KitKat Green Tea Matcha is made with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives using Matcha green tea from Japan and China.

Originally launched across Europe earlier this year, this green coloured four-finger treat will now be available exclusively in Tesco in the World Foods aisle and in One Stop and Booker Retail Partners from this week.

Jemma Handley, Senior Brand Manager for KitKat, said: “We are very excited to be able to offer this new innovative product, inspired by the flavours of KitKat in Japan to our fans here in the UK and Ireland.

“We have been receiving many requests about making the different KitKat flavours in Japan available to our consumers here. This unique new flavour has been Japan’s firm favourite for the last fifteen years and we are sure it will be a huge hit here as well.”

The new launch follows on from the introduction of KitKat Ruby last year, to meet the growing demands of consumers who enjoy experimenting with new trends.

The launches of KitKat Green Tea Matcha and KitKat Ruby underline Nestlé’s commitment to developing new, innovative products to help grow its leading confectionery brands around the world.

KitKat is one of Nestlé’s leading confectionery brands and has a unique mix of heritage and innovation. From its origins here in the UK in 1932, KitKat has grown in popularity across the globe.

The rise of KitKat in Japan began in the year 2000 with a strawberry flavour version. Nestlé in Japan has taken KitKat to the next level in the last two decades, with innovative flavour combinations and inspiring special editions. In 2004, the ‘KitKat Uji Matcha’ was released. With the introduction of a new technology to mix matcha powder into chocolate, the product became a huge hit.
